New heat from UGK’s forthcoming record, which I’m sure is going to be dooope. Also, as many of you know, the homie Haldan is Stockton to all you DJ Malones out there, delivering flavorful remix marvelousness week in and week out. Thank him.
I revived an old music blog from the early 2000s?
Maybe it’s been a foolish endeavor, and maybe I’m the only one who misses the blog ol’ days, but I’ve been giving it a shot. I’ve been working on restoring some of the old content, though much of it was lost. I’ve slowly been rebuilding the old remix sunday archives, and even posting the occasional new edition. And I’ve been writing again.
You can find all the label’s releases here, on bandcamp, or most anywhere you listen to music these days. I’ve still got copies of some of the old vinyl releases, and I recently released the first in a set of charitable cassette compilations to raise awareness about the continued [mis]use of broken windows policing methods.
Plus, I put together a playlists section with a handful of spotify lists that hopefully start to capture a [slightly] updated version of the moods we used to peddle. Give those a listen and a ❤ if you would be so kind. If you want to get in touch, just give me a holler.

Sample Wednesday 27: Daft Punk

This is my favorite edition of Sample Wednesday so far. I think most of you will be as shocked as I was to hear some of these tracks. I couldn’t have put this together without inspiration from the girl Elizabeth. She put it well: as you hear these tracks you’ll either decide Daft Punk isn’t as genius as you thought they were or that they’re twice as amazing. I just know that for any Daft Punk fan out there, these tracks are essential. In other words, don’t skip this one.

Palms Out Mix Series Vol. 1: Snack & C’mish

A few weeks ago, my friend Ben invited me to eat Korean BBQ with him and his friends. I was lucky enough to meet one of his friends, Jay, a very sweet guy who goes by the name Snackmaster. He knew Palms Out, and told me he had grabbed a Chromeo edit a few weeks before from Remix Sunday, for the mix he and his padna C’mish had recently done for Lemon-Red. Of course I had no idea which song he was talking about, and felt like a fool. But it was all for the best – I asked him if he’d be interested in being the first up in our brand new feature–the Palms Out Sounds Mix Series–where we ask your favorite DJs to step outside the box- and create a special mix they’ve always fantasized about. Lucky for me (and you) Snack & C’mish were down, and the result is this absurdly great mix of classic electro, disco, and house: Midnight Run.

Mehdi, umm… Rare

This is how he’s described on his myspace page:
DJ Mehdi gets so cosmic with the synths that it’s as if you’ve woken up in an alternative 1983, where Thatchers rule has been replaced by that of benevolent aliens.
His upcoming album, Lucky Boy, is magnificent. It’s my first real taste of a smoother side of the french-touch revolution, besides maybe the Justice & Simian track – which is apparently closer to what Justice’s album will sound like. I guess all the distortion is already played out, huh? Mehdi has been making hiphop in Paris for the last 10 years with the likes of MC Solaar, Ahkenaton, K-Os, and Lil’ Dap of Group Home, and he’s been part of this current Parisian electro scene since its beginnings. He also runs the small label Espionnage, but is releasing his album through international favorites, Ed Banger. Enough explaining already, this shit speaks for itself.
DJ Medhi – “Lucky Boy” ft. Fafi (sc)
DJ Mehdi – “Leave It Alone” (sc)
DJ Mehdi – “Busy Being Born” (sc)
DJ Mehdi – “Boggin” (sc)
From the future: Sadly, DJ Mehdi died on September 13, 2011. He left a gaping hole in the French music world, and no doubt in the lives of his loved ones.
Badman Forward
After reflecting on a conversation I had with my partner in rhyme recently, I’ve realized that there’s been a serious lack of dancehall flavor here on Palms Out. Believe you me friends, all of that is about to change. Yeah there’s tons of sex, money, drugs and guns in many dancehall reggae tunes, yet many of the artists are so immensely creative with their cadences, intonations and approaches that they usually end up flipping stale ass subjects a quadrillion times better than their hip-hop counterparts. So, for your listening pleh-jure, there’s a couple of joints that if you were DJing a reggae party right now and didn’t play them, you might literally get run up out the damn club. And if you thought solicitations for sex on wax could not possibly be done in a new way, peep the Vybz Kartel joint below, or any Vybz Kartel tune, for that matter.
