RAPRAVE – hyper/link Vol. 2

Despite only having appeared in 2021, NYC’s RAPRAVE is something of an institution already. They have a great monthly on The Lot, thrown lots of events, and released a couple of great records with Amadeezy, and a handful of edit packs and one-offs with Tom Huna–whose work I hadn’t heard before discovering the label, but is really good.

In 2023, they also released a stellar compilation–mostly of edits and bootlegs–called hyper/link that seemed to be a manifesto of the label’s ethos. I get a little nostalgic here sometimes, especially when I encounter folks doing something that reminds me the kind of thing we did through this outlet a decade or two ago. It’s just nice to know folks like this are carrying the torch and pushing mutant rap/club music crossover stuff in the City the way Palms Out tried to way back when (not that we were alone, the first, or the last, but y’know).

The first hyper/link was excellent, but they’ve recently followed it up with a bigger and better second volume, with 24 tracks from the likes of Fullbodydurag, Martyn Bootyspoon, Mondai, Miss Jay, Ghost Phone, TWAANKALU, and CAMGIRL among many others. I’m sharing a couple of my favorites from it here, but definitely go straight to bandcamp to grab it for pay-what-you-wish. It’s more than worth it, so maybe drop a few bucks in return too.

Fullbodydurag – “BUSS IT” (bc)

Marzville x Klassik Frescobar – “Too Much” (TWAANKALU Remix)

Mondai – “Y2C” (bc)
